Rapid Antigen Tests (RATS)- Now Available In New Zealand

RAT Tests (Rapid Antigen Tests)

RAT Tests are used to quickly diagnose infections, in particular Covid-19. They allow point of care testing for Covid infections without needing to send a sample to a lab for diagnosis. They directly detect the presence of Covid or an antigen, as opposed to other types of testing which look for the presence of antibodies or nucleic acids. They usually take about 15 minutes to do, which helps businesses where testing is essential for daily operations.

Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) are used to detect the specific antigens found in the outer part of Covid-19 virus such as the spike protein. The test itself can be self-administered and will show a positive, negative or invalid test in 15 minutes.

RATs are another tool to support you, your employees and your work place to test for Covid-19 virus. Using Rapid Antigen Tests can help reduce the spread of Covid-19 by identify individuals early before they spread the virus to their colleagues and the community.

Rapid Antigen Testing is a nasal swab test but less invasive than the current RT-PCR test which are sent to the lab to confirm your result.
RATs are easily self-administered with your results in 15 minutes.
Rapid Antigen Test must have Ministry of Health approval here in NZ.
